CHICAGO (January 26, 2018) – Congressman Bobby Rush (D-1) endorsed progressive Democrat Fritz Kaegi for Cook County Tax Assessor on Friday, joining a growing list of Democratic Party leaders rejecting embattled incumbent Joe Berrios.
“I stand here today to endorse Fritz Kaegi for Cook County Assessor because I know that he is exactly what we need to clean up the mess created by Joe Berrios,” said Rush in a press conference Friday morning. “Joe Berrios’ property tax racket unfairly penalizes black and brown communities while Berrios does nothing but line his own pockets. Some homeowners in the 1st District are losing their homes because of a system that is designed to fail them. We can no longer tolerate this corrupt behavior.”
“We need a leader like Fritz Kaegi who will stand up and do the right thing. As a progressive leader, Fritz will stand for honesty, transparency and integrity. Join me on March 20th as we say no to corruption and pay-to-play politics and yes to leaders like Fritz Kaegi, who will make a difference in our communities.”
“Congressman Rush’s support is another signal of our campaign’s growing momentum as voters in Cook County unite behind our vision of an Assessor’s Office that operates fairly, transparently and with a focus on professionalism–not patronage,” said Kaegi. “I am grateful to Congressman Rush and other members of Congress, including Congressmen Danny Davis and Bill Foster and Congresswoman Robin Kelly for their support.”
