Fritz Kaegi for Assessor

MEET FRITZ KAEGI

___________

A lifelong Democrat, Fritz Kaegi came into the Assessor’s Office following his 2018 election determined to bring change to a broken property tax system that was stacked against middle class residents. In less than four years, he has expanded protections for seniors, veterans, and disabled residents and stopped a twenty-year trend of rising tax bills for residential properties in middle class and struggling neighborhoods.

WHY I’M RUNNING

Since being elected Cook County Assessor in 2018, we have made great strides in bringing equity, fairness and transparency to America’s largest property tax system. As the only progressive, independent candidate in the race, I am seeking a second term to continue the work of reforming our broken tax system for the residents and small businesses of Cook County.

We have accomplished a great deal in my first term, including lowering taxes for most Chicago residents for the first time in nearly a decade, and winning awards for transparency and public service. We are continuing to fix a long-broken system by assessing commercial property fairly and reducing the burden on average homeowners and small businesses who for too long have paid more than their fair share. During a second term, I will build on our work of bringing fairness and equity to all Cook County taxpayers which will create more transparency in our property tax system.

No favoritism, just fairness.

Fritz Kaegi believes that government should treat everyone fairly—not give special treatment to the very wealthy or politically connected.
