State Sen. Heather Steans Endorses Progressive Democrat Fritz Kaegi for Cook County Assessor
CHICAGO (November 7, 2017) – State Senator Heather Steans (D-Chicago) has endorsed Fritz Kaegi, a progressive Democrat seeking to unseat Joe Berrios in the Cook County Assessor’s race.
“We are in dire need of systemic change in the Assessor’s office. The current situation that has low-income homeowners pay disproportionately higher property taxes is untenable and continues to wreak havoc on the residents of Cook County,” Sen. Steans said. “The Assessor’s office needs a principled leader who will not bend to the will of pay-to-play interests and who will serve everyone equally, not just the well heeled. I know Fritz Kaegi will usher in a spirit of honesty, integrity and fairness to the residents of Cook County.”
Sen. Steans’ backing comes on the heels of Cook County Clerk David Orr’s endorsement of Kaegi. “I am grateful that Sen. Steans has endorsed my campaign to become the Cook County Assessor,” Kaegi added. “In the near decade that Sen. Steans has represented the 7th District, she has been a champion for progressive issues and has worked tirelessly to fight for the most vulnerable. Her support of our campaign is a testament to our dedication to rid the Assessor’s office of corruption and pay-to-play politics.”
